GREAT BRITAIN’S first Davis Cup final since 1978 is just around the corner, so it has never been more important to capitalize on the buzz and celebrate the game.

Judy Murray took her Tennis on the Road programme back to Cumbernauld and Stirling to help build on the success of the first roadshow visits last year and build a workforce to help grow the game.

Tennis on the Road, supported by Royal Bank of Scotland, is based on the games and skill building activities that Judy played with Andy and Jamie, when they were young.

The programme aims to give parents, teachers, coaches and volunteers the tools to get children active and develop the skills needed to play tennis using the most basic of equipment. The sessions cost little to set up and will help to develop the vital ABCs of sport – agility, balance and coordination.

Judy said: "Tennis on the Road is about helping to inspire and support parents, teachers and coaches to increase participation and grow the game. The programme focuses on how to deliver simple fun skill building sessions - the types of games that Andy and Jamie loved to play when they were kids, but it can also show creative ways to introduce kids to competition. It’s been great to revisit Cumbernauld and Stirling and see the progress that has been made in the areas since last years visits."

Judy kicked off the first of nine sessions across three days in Cumbernauld and Stirling last week. Throughout these sessions, over 190 children and 200 adults and young adults got involved from across the Forth Valley and beyond.

Martyn Wilson, Senior Sponsorship Manager for Royal Bank of Scotland, said: “Tennis on the Road is a fantastic initiative and we are proud to be working with Judy and her team to offer our customers and staff across Scotland with the opportunity to benefit from the programme. We were delighted to see the roadshow re-visit Cumbernauld and Stirling and hope that the programme can have a lasting positive impact in both areas.”
