Doune Castle’s Niall McClure produced a Man of the Match display for the Scottish Amateur Select as they recorded a 1-0 win in the recent international match versus Ireland at Lesser Hampden.

The Scots were delighted to retain the Graham Harkness Memorial Trophy with an impressive display in a high tempo match.

Playing in his favoured central midfield berth, Niall dominated all of the aerial challenges. His surging runs and probing passes did much to drive Scotland to their win.

The only disappointment for the Castle was the late withdrawal from the Select squad of Sean Heaver, their flying winger. Sean aggravated an injury during the final training session and was forced to remain on the sidelines.

Both Niall and Sean seem certain to feature in a busy May programme for the Scots. Early in the month they travel to Belfast for the annual international versus Northern Ireland.

Later in the month, it’s the UEFA Regions Cup Preliminary Round tournament in Lithuania when the Scots will face the host nation, Estonia and Sweden.

Congratulations to Niall on his tremendous display and good luck to him and all of the other Castle lads attracting the attention of team manager, Bruce McNaught.
