Doune Castle ................................................. 0 Southside ....................................................... 1 Doune Castle crashed out of this season’s Scottish Cup with a disappointing replay defeat to a Southside team who were hungrier and more determined throughout.

The loss of an early goal proved costly for a strangely lethargic Doune. A deflected effort in the third minute was enough to see the visitors win this Scottish Cup 6th Round replay.

Southside grabbed the game’s only goal on three minutes.

Waddell drilled a low ball across goal. Ryan Duncanson sliced his attempted clearance directly off the shin of the on-rushing Wood. From six yards, the ball looped high into the air and dropped into the net over Callum Davison’s despairing stretch to make it 1-0.

McEwan denied Alan Inglis with a breath-taking save after 18 minutes. Inglis leapt high to direct a strong header towards the far post from eight yards. The ball looked destined for the far corner until McEwan flung himself across goal to palm the ball round the left hand post.

Southside were deserving of their 1-0 interval lead. On 67 minutes, David McEwan made his second top class save of the game, diving full-length to his right to push away Sean Heaver’s fierce 25 yard drive after the ball had been moved down the Southside left flank.

The resultant corner broke to Colin Burke 14 yards out, but with his back to goal. Burke did well to swivel and shoot only to find McEwan had charged from his line and blocked Burke’s shot with a full body dive for a brave and vital stop.

Doune came close to equalising on 81 minutes. Jonny Burns found Kenny Feaks at the far post with a free kick curled in from the Southside right.

Feaks brought the ball down well, but his driven effort from seven yards ricocheted off the left hand post and flew behind.

The home side tried desperately to force an equaliser in the closing stages, but a compact Southside saw out time to record a fine win.
