Doune Castle ....................... 1 Gartcosh United ................. 1 Doune Castle were made to work hard for a 1-1 draw by a determined Gartcosh last weekend.

The hosts started the match brightly and Kenny Feaks broke well from deep to create the first chance, but was left frustrated as his shot from the edge of the area slipped inches past.

Jonny Burns then directed a strong header goalwards from 14 yards, but the keeper positioned himself well to save high to his left. After 21 minutes, Callum Davison did well to smother a downward header as Gartcosh continued to look deadly on the break.

On 25 minutes, Wilson easily gathered Sean Heaver’s low free kick from 25 yards.

It was the visitors made the break through after 39 minutes. Doune lost possession in midfield before Dempsey lobbed the ball over Davison and into the net from 18 yards to make it 1-0.

Doune struck back on the stroke of halftime when Alan More found Sean Heaver with a throw wide on the left. Heaver turned inside his marker and drilled an unstoppable drive that flashed past Wilson and into the net at the near post from 22 yards to make it 1-1.

After the restart, once again it was the hosts who went on the offensive, but More was left frustrated as his left foot effort slipped inches wide.

Gartcosh then squandered a good chance on 67 minutes then just two minutes later, Callum Davison had to be alert to block a shot from 16 yards.

After 83 minutes, Craig Stewart almost gave Doune the advantage as he expertly wriggled free to shoot, but his effort was smothered by an alert Wilson just as the ball seemed destined for the net.

Deep in added time, Sean Heaver set off on a mazy run and ghosted past five defenders, but Wilson showed remarkable agility to parry his powerful strike from 16 yards.

From the resultant corner, Alan More latched onto the loose ball but skewed his shot wide.

Doune were denied by an inspired keeper, with Wilson’s late save from Sean Heaver one of the best seen at Moray Park for many a year earning his side a draw.
