PETER Grant is determined to add only "quality players" to his Alloa squad - but admits he has been frustrated so far in his search.

The Wasps boss is on the hunt for additions ahead of the part-timer's third consecutive season in the Championship, which will kick off in October.

Grant has already added highly-rated centre-back Nicky Jamieson to his ranks but, following the departures of the likes of Iain Flannigan and Kevin O'Hara, knows he still needs to find a couple more bodies to bolster the team.

Advertiser Sport understands the former Celtic captain has his eye on a number of players currently playing in the Premiership, although things have been complicated by a new rule on substitutes.

For this season, SPFL clubs can keep nine players on their bench and bring a maximum of five into play, meaning several targets on Grant's radar found themselves involved in the weekend's opening round of fixtures.

Grant said: "It's different for us as we know we will have to entice players with the chance to play in the Championship.

"But, with two months still to go until we begin our season, players can still contemplate the chance to go somewhere else or even to stay full-time.

"There's not much we can do about that and that's neither here nor there for us. With the Premiership having the five subs rule, it is also not great for us as some guys who would have had an opportunity to go out on loan are now in the squad."

The Wasps have benefitted greatly in recent seasons by exploiting the Premiership loan market. Jake Hastie excited during a brief stay from Motherwell, for instance, while Celtic's Robbie Deas excelled beside Andy Graham last season.

Grant added: "I'll always sell the club and the fact people can remain full-time when they are with us. We'll be giving them quality football."
