JIM GOODWIN called on his Wasps players to head to Firhill on Saturday without fear as they prepare for the crucial relegation clash.

One point separates the sides with Partick Thistle currently sitting a place above Alloa in the Championship table.

The Glasgow side picked up their first win under Gary Caldwell at the weekend, but Goodwin believes his team has nothing to fear away to their full time opponents.

Goodwin told Advertiser Sport: “We will go to Firhill on Saturday and fancy ourselves.

“They obviously picked up a great result as they beat Dunfermline, but we’ve already beaten them this season and fancy our chances of doing so again.

“I say it every week. We don’t fear anyone and I know if the boys play to the levels they are capable of, then they are a match for anyone in this league.

“They’ve proven that and we now need to just get that win on the board starting on Saturday at Thistle.”

Goodwin watched his Alloa side fight back from two goals down to battle for a point at basement boys Falkirk at the weekend.

However, it was a result he admitted was ultimately disappointing in the end.

He continued: “I should be satisfied with us coming back and getting a point from two down, but it is probably the most deflated I have felt after a game of football for a long time.

“Really frustrated with the fact that we gifted Falkirk a two goal start and they are really sloppy goals as far as we’re concerned.

“I’m just so frustrated with the cheap goals we are giving away and if we can cut out those cheap goals we can give ourselves a chance to win games.

“I always fancy us going forward and we had plenty of opportunities on Saturday. Dario Zanatta hits a post and balls flash across the face.

“Even in the first half, Kevin Cawley flashes a great header across the face and someone has got to just go and tap it in.

“After that, we completely dominated the game and were well on top.

“In the second half, I felt we were camped in the Falkirk half for most of the game and the fact I am gutted after 2-2 draw speaks volumes.

“I think it would have been a travesty if we hadn’t come out with something from that game.”

Alloa had found themselves behind to sloppy goals from Deimantas Petravicius and Paul Paton within half an hour.

However, they battled back thanks to two goals from Alan Trouten and the boss was full of praise for his side’s character.

Goodwin added: “It would have been very easy for the boys to throw in the towel at 2-0 down, but they are not like that.

“It would have been very easy at 2-0 to allow it to go three or four.

“They just showed fantastic character and belief and they are a very, very positive group.

“I think it is a massive point and how important will it prove to be? Who knows.”
