ALLOA produced a stunning fightback to come from two goals down to draw away at Falkirk on Saturday.

The hosts had raced into the lead after strikes from Deimantas Petravicius and Paul Paton looked like leaving the Wasps rooted to the foot of the Championship table.

But, Alloa refused to wilt and an Alan Trouten brace secured a crucial point in the relegation battle.

You would have been hard pressed to find somebody who would have fancied the Alloa comeback after they succumbed to a nightmare start as Petravicius opened the scoring.

Five minutes in, Tommy Robson picked the ball up in his own half and left Kevin Cawley for dust. The full back was allowed to dribble the whole length of the pitch before floating in a harmless looking cross into the box, which the Lithuanian duly nodded past Neil Parry.

Dario Zanatta should have levelled fifteen minutes in when he raced behind the sluggish Falkirk back three and got onto Iain Flannigan’s lovely pass, but he delayed the shot and allowed Scott Harrison to block.

The nightmare start would go from bad to worse, but not before Liam Dick squandered an even better chance.

Only he will know how he failed to net from just a yard out - and how costly it proved to be.

Flannigan swung in a beautiful fee kick, Cawley nodded across goal, but Dick could only find the side netting.

Less than two minutes later, Falkirk went up the other end and more dallying by the Alloa rearguard allowed Paton to bury the ball into the corner of the net and it was suddenly 2-0.

Too often Alloa were failing to find the final ball when it mattered with Jake Hastie in particular guilty of running down blind alleys far too often.

That was until the Motherwell loanee finally produced a moment of quality. A long punt from Parry in the 42nd minute caused chaos in the Falkirk defence, Hastie got on the end of it and put it on a plate for Trouten who couldn’t miss.

They had struggled for most of the half, but, with Falkirk arguing among themselves and only one goal in it, Alloa headed in at the break with all to play for.

Straight from the off the confidence that goal had given them was clear to see as they dominated the ball for most of the half.

They were unlucky not to be level when Zanatta again found himself in behind, but this time Fasan denied him.

Graham nodded one wide and Aaron Muirhead went close at the other end, but there was little to get excited about in terms of goalmouth action as the game passed the hour mark.

But, Alloa continued to probe and they would get their just rewards when Trouten grabbed his second of the day to level in the 77th minute.

It all started when a Zanatta effort hit the post and was scrambled behind. From the resulting corner, Fasan failed to deal with it and Trouten cleverly backheeled it home.

Jim Goodwin’s men threatened at the death through substitute Connor Shields but they had to settle for a much merited point - one which is sure to play a crucial role come the end of the season.

It was enough to send the 120 Alloa faithful home delighted as they remain above Falkirk on goal difference.
