RANGERS striker Jermain Defoe has suffered a slight setback in his comeback from a hamstring strain after taking part in training at Auchenhowie on Monday.

The former England internationalist, who suffered the knock in a pre-season game against Motherwell last month, will miss the Premiership games against St Johnstone at home tonight and possibly Livingston away on Sunday.

However, Kemar Roofe, the former Leeds United striker who joined Rangers from Anderlecht last week, could feature at Ibrox this evening after coming through his first session with his new team mates.

Elsewhere, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard revealed that Allan McGregor, who sat out the 3-0 win over St Mirren at Ibrox on Sunday, won’t be ready to face St Johnstone.

"Jermain did a light session yesterday, but there was a small setback in that session so he will struggle for tomorrow and maybe for the weekend,” he said

“Roofe trained yesterday fully for the first time so I need to make a decision about whether he is ready for the squad or not.

“Allan McGregor won’t make it. He’ll need a couple more days. He should be fine for the weekend.”
