Active Stirling hosted another successful Big Fit Walk, leaving from the Mayfield Community Centre in St Ninians.

Volunteer walk leaders and a mixture of existing and new walkers met at the entrance to the Community Centre at 11.00am in the sunshine and set off for their walk towards Balquidderock Wood and back to the Centre for tea/coffee and home baking.

The walk was part of the Paths for All, Big Fit Walk initiative taking part during the month of June  to encourage local people to celebrate being active in their community.

Stirling Walking Network co-ordinator Tricia Cumming said: “I was delighted at the turnout of local people who had come along.

"The impression that most people have is that there is nowhere of interest to walk nearby. Several of the walkers mentioned that they had never realised there was so much green space so close to the Community Centre.”

One walker added: "It was so peaceful walking in Balquidderock wood and you could hear the birds singing as we admired the wild flowers including some wild orchids. A great way to get some gentle exercise and meet some new people. I will definitely make this walk a regular activity each Thursday morning."
