Crieff & Strathearn RFC ....... 26

Glenrothes 2nd XV ........ 15

THE Blue and Golds were back in action last Saturday after the holidays and welcomed Glenrothes to Crieff for league business.

With all the recent rain the Braidhaugh pitches were deemed unplayable so the match was moved to the Community Campus pitch at Crieff High.

After some discussion the game went ahead despite the snow and unlined pitch.

So in difficult conditions for both teams the referee got the game under way.

First points on the board came from a penalty from Ryan Flett but thereafter the visitors turned the screw and piled on the pressure onto the home teams try line.

Eventually their big lock bulldozed through the Blue and Gold defence and scored a worthy try. Crieff and Strathearn responded with a great passing move to allow Greg Coul to score between the sticks.

With a very even game at this point the big Glenrothes forwards piled over the try line to make the half time score ten apiece.

Coach Cammy Kennedy came on in the second half to steady the team and so the Blue and Golds benefitted from his experience with the score board nicely ticking over with penalty's from Ryan Flett and a signature try from Andrew Tainsh.

Glenrothes scored a late consolation try but Crieff and Strathearn were worthy winners.

There was a bit of indiscipline towards the end of the game with a Glenrothes player taking a red card and a Blue and Gold yellow but overall was a thoroughly entertaining game played in the winter snow.

A good warm up for this weeks encounter which is a difficult away fixture against league leaders Falkirk 2's.

The Blue and Golds are in second position so this should be a cracking game.

There is also a veterans game at Braidhaugh on Saturday with the local ancients against Dunkeld with a 1pm KO.
