Crieff & Strathearn RFC .................... 27

Arbroath RFC .................................... 44

THE BLUE and Golds welcomed Arbroath to Crieff last Saturday in the opening day of the league season.

With a good pre-season behind them, the local side were anticipating a decent performance against the Smokies.

However due to injuries and some late call offs, Coach Kennedy had to reshuffle his squad and even had to call on talented veterans, Martin Luti and Pierre Leger.

The visitors took the game to Crieff and Strathearn and scored two early trys. The homesters responded with two of their own and at this stage the game was finely balanced.

With the help of the two front row heavys the local side won most scrums and line outs.

However at half time Arbroath were 15-18 to the good.

In the second half, with Arbroath sensing the lack of cohesion in the Blue and Gold backs, the visitors piled on the pressure and came out eventual winners 27-44.

The local side can feel a little disappointed, but will hopefully make amends this Saturday when they welcome Stirling University to Crieff for a cup game. 3pm kick off.
