THE torrential rain did little to dampen the spirits of those attending the Stirling Festival of Cycling and Walking which took place at the weekend.

Organised by the Stirling Active Travel Hub in conjunction with their Forth Valley counterparts, the festival celebrated all things cycling and walking.

There were a number of events and activities on for people of all ages with the crowd seemingly entertained for more than six hours thanks to the tricks and flicks of the cycling stunt team.

Local kids shrugged off Sunday’s showers to enjoy a host of free festival activities from showing off their skills on the pump track and testing their agility in the balance zone, to having a ride in an electric cargo bike with mum or dad and making their own pedal powered smoothie.

For the children, the day was topped off with face painting, storytelling and a bouncy castle.

Grown-ups also had their fair share of the fun, taking turns trying out the wide range of bikes on offer from a Penny Farthing to the latest electric bikes.

The main highlight for many festival goers however was Scotland’s cycle stunt team The Clan, who stunned the crowd with their daredevil mid-air flips and gravity-defying leaps.

With a number of not-to-be-tried-at-home tricks, the crowd were wowed from start to finish at Stirling High School as they showed their appreciation to the group.

Also on offer throughout the day was Recyke-a-Bike’s Dr Bike to ensure everyone’s summer holiday cycling adventure stayed on track.

Emily Callan of Stirling Active Travel Hub said: "Chances are if you like cycling and walking in Scotland, you're not put off by a bit of rain! It was great to see families getting together to try out different ways to get active.

“Everyone who tried out our new electric Forth Bikes had a huge smile on their face."
