PUPILS at Redwell Primary School hosted a book fayre in order to raise vital funds to go towards a reading den.
As reported by the Advertiser, Redwell had partnered with local charity Logan’s Wee Library, which in itself is part of the wider Usborne Books, throughout National Storytelling Week.
The school launched a GoFundMe to ask parents, families and businesses for donations to purchase new, modern and exciting books for the kids to read.
Initially setting a target of £600, Redwell and Usborne have managed to raise a whopping £3258, smashing their original goal.
The school’s book fayre was held on Thursday, February 1 with Usborne providing books to buy, with the money going towards the school’s reading den funds.
Before this, the school also hosted a community reading café on January 31 for both children and adults to discover the benefits of reading.
This was supported by local shops Tesco and Morrisons, whose community champions donated cakes and treats towards.
Mrs McCole, acting principal teach at Redwell, said: “The support that Redwell has received has been absolutely wonderful and if it wasn’t for efforts and support of everyone involved, we shouldn’t have achieved he success that we have.
“Our final fundraising total stands at £3258, far surpassing our original £600 target.
“This money will be used to set up our lunchtime reading den but will also be used to refresh our shared area libraries in partnership with the children themselves.”
