A successful quiz night in Alva has raised over £500.
The event was run by Alva Food Larder and Alva Parish Church.
John Lamond, who organised the quiz, said: “We had a maximum turnout, at a push, we could have squeezed in another table, but including myself, 57 people took part. Initially we suggested teams of 4, but on the night, there was one team of three and two teams of five.
“Ricky Cassidy, our quizmaster was excellent, keeping everybody under control and putting down the complaints (mostly from me) that the answers he had were wrong!”
There were a few raffle prizes up for grabs. These included a magnum of wine, whisky, and a pair of designer sunglasses valued at £200 from Nicols. Bottles of whisky were donated by Glencadam Distillery and the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

John added: “It was several years since a quiz had been held in the church halls and the pub quiz which used to held within the Johnstone Arms and which the Men’s Group within the kirk had enjoyed, had fallen due to lack of numbers because of the Covid epidemic.”
The quiz night raised a total of £538 for the food larder and church.
“We were very pleased with the result of £538 raised and the feedback has encouraged us to repeat the quiz next year.” John said.
