GALA day has returned to a Wee County village after some 10 years of absence.

Coalsnaughton Gala made the return on Saturday, June 18, with food, music, a licensed bar, a large inflatable obstacle course and bouncy castle, plenty of fun games, children's sports events, an evening disco and much more.

Organised and funded by volunteers at Coalsnaughton Burns Club, the event was well supported with hundreds of people turning out, the last gala having been held in 2013.

Disaster almost struck in the morning when the wind nearly blew the roof off the marquee but volunteers ensured everything was sorted in time for the event's start at 12noon.

Scott Doyle, president of Coalsnaughton Burns Club, explained the day was well received by residents.

It is all thanks to the club's regeneration and the president told the Advertiser: “We are trying to reconstitute the club to make it what it was at its foundation 77 years ago, and that is to be of service to the community to provide things for the children, community members.

“But we still don't have enough people volunteering, coming forward to give their time to do this, without that, we can't do what we want to do without people getting onboard, helping us out.”

Ochils Mountain Rescue Team, Alloa Rotary Club and community policing officers were also there on the day to support the gala.

The president thanked club secretary Jason Frew, vice president Sam Marlin, community liaison officer Stuart Hall, bar manageress Jackie Conley, treasurer Chris McDonald, the rest of the committee and Coalsnaughton PS headteacher Colleen ClarkBurns for their support.

Hopes are to hold the event again next year, but the club's president is calling on people to get involved as volunteers to help in the mammoth effort in putting the event on.

Scott said: “We are looking for people in the community to help us because it's a huge undertaking.”
