Patients who require repeat prescriptions are being warned Glasgow's climate conference could cause disruption to services.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said road closures and the "potential for travel disruption" meant there is a requirement to plan ahead when accessing health services, including allowing sufficient time to order and collect repeat prescriptions.

The city will host the COP26 Climate Conference at the SEC from October 31 and November 12.

The health board said it has been working with GP practices and pharmacies in the area closest to the venue alongside event organisers, "to ensure they can continue delivering services to our communities.

The board said it is working to resolve any issues that may arise.

It comes after a GP practice in the Finnieston area of the city said it will be operating on an "emergency only" basis due to COP 26 disruption.

A text message was sent to those signed up at Radnor Street Surgery notifying patients only to contact the practice if the call is urgent on November 1, as the conference gets underway.

The text stated: "On November 1 there will be additional road closures around Kelvingrove, Yorkhill and Finnieston area, causing significant disruption and no vehicle movement from 2pm in some surrounding streets.

"Access into the surgery will be very restricted for patients, staff and GPs."

Dr Linda de Caestecker, Director of Public Health at NHSGGC said: “COP26 is one of the biggest events that Scotland has ever hosted and with it comes significant disruption, particularly around roads and travel.

"We have worked incredibly hard with our colleagues in primary care, particularly in areas closed to the SEC, to minimise any potential disruption from the travel and security impacts of the event.

“We would ask anyone accessing healthcare to plan ahead, especially if you have repeat prescriptions or other essential medication.

“Please make sure you order your repeat prescriptions and only the essential medication you need well in advance.”
