RE-ELECTED candidate Mark Ruskell has vowed to repay voters' faith in the Scottish Greens as he looks forward to another term at Holyrood.

The candidate has been re-elected to represent the Mid Scotland and Fife region after all the votes were counted up following the Scottish Parliament Elections last week.

The Scottish Greens have increased their share of the vote in the region by 2.2 per cent and ran no candidate to contest the Clackmannanshire and Dunblane constituency seat.

Mr Ruskell, who is looking forwards to a third term at Holyrood, said after the count last weekend: "I'm incredibly grateful to people in Clackmannanshire who have once again placed their trust in me.

"Our increased vote share also shows that many people have backed the Scottish Greens for the first time and over the next parliament I'll work hard to repay that faith.

"In parts of the region we've out polled Labour and the Liberal Democrats."

While this year's elections have seen no major swings in terms of the number of seats taken by each party, the Scottish Greens have gained an extra two across the country while Labour lost two.

Mr Ruskell said: "Our success in this election reflects our achievements over the last five years as well as peoples' support for our plans to tackle the climate emergency.

"This gives us a great platform heading into next year's council elections where we'll have some fantastic local candidates looking to make a breakthrough on to Clackmannanshire Council."

The Scottish Green politician has long argued for passenger rail links to be re-established between Clacks and Fife.

The representative added: "I'm also looking forward to continue to work with the community on issues like the Alloa to Dunfermline rail link and the provision of local bus services.

"I'm delighted to be back at my desk."
