WEE COUNTY football club Alloa Saints were certainly kept busy in 2020 – but not in the most conventional way.

With the football calendar widely disrupted by Covid-19, the teams have still been making huge strides in the development of the club, as well as helping out the local community through charity fundraisers and food collection drives.

Back in March last year, just before the lockdown, the club secured a three-year sponsorship deal with Allanwater Homes, with the company name featuring on all the club's main strips from their 2015 squad to their 2005 team.

The club then secured another sponsor in Clacks' own Ceteris, who became the club's back-of-shirt sponsor.

As part of the deal, the club opened up a base at Alloa Business Centre to provide the committee and helpers a base to store kit and manage the club's administrative tasks.

When football training resumed, support from Forth Valley Health Board, Coalfields Regeneration Trust, Clackmannanshire Third Sector and Diageo supported the club with kit and sanitiser to provide a Covid-free safe environment for coaches and players.

In September, club chairman Paul Robertson carried out a week long challenge of walking 55km and cycling 155km during the week and was joined for the last 10km with some of the club's players and families.

The challenge was set up to raise funds for a new club van and their charity sponsor Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS).

A month later, the club were delighted to send off a huge £787 to CHSS.

Just before the festive break, the club started two new groups for 2014 and 2015 ages, both of which are now full, bringing the number of players, coaches and helpers at the club to nearly 200.

Finally, a hectic 2020 ended with a Christmas raffle and fun training session at where a food collection was done for the Gate Charity.

The club also gave staff and residents at Beechwood Nursing Home and Parklands Nursing Home a hamper.
