An emergency motion is expected to be lodged at a full council meeting held today in calls for wider support for businesses in Glasgow.
While full confirmation will be revealed later today, Glasgow is expected to be placed on the third tier of the new Covid-19 restrictions system.
For the hospitality industry, it means the sale of alcohol will continue to be banned. All premises can however open for food and non-alcoholic drinks. Under the third tier, cafes restaurants and bars will only be permitted to operate until 6pm.
The motion, proposed by Glasgow Conservative group leader Thomas Kerr, will ask the full council to consider that there is "far more that needs to be done to support businesses in Glasgow" despite the package of financial support within the Scottish Government's Strategic Framework.
Ahead of the full council meeting, councillor Kerr said: "Following the Scottish Parliament's approval of the new Coronavirus Strategic Framework, all indications are that Glasgow will be placed into Tier 3 which will entail an unspecified period of further restrictions for residents and businesses in Glasgow.
"Our motion attempts to find some common ground across the political spectrum by acknowledging that Glasgow needs continued support from both of its governments.
"Glasgow businesses deserve nothing less than the same level of support as their counterparts anywhere in the United Kingdom.
"I'm hoping all councillors can unite on that basis and stand up for our city by writing to the First Minister requesting that she do more to protect jobs and livelihoods in Glasgow."
A Scottish Government spokesman said: "Decisions on what level local authorities will be in will be based on the most up to date information on prevalence of the virus.
"No decisions have been taken on what level local authorities will be in and any speculation is premature.”
