FLY-TIPPERS dumped rubbish in the middle of a local road causing delays for commuters in Clackmannanshire this morning.

Aberdona Road near Forrestmill was obstructed by a pile of rubbish - which included slates, wood and nails - on Wednesday, August 12.

Police were alerted to the obstruction, and a team from Clackmannanshire Council was dispatched to clear the waste.

The local authority has hit out at whoever was responsible for dumping the material, claiming the clear-up was an unnecessary distraction at a time when severe weather already disrupted local transport.

A spokesperson said: "Fly-tipping not only affects the physical appearance of the area but it is illegal, causes damage to the environment and can be dangerous to members of the public.

“We want to ensure that we keep fly-tipping to a minimum in Clackmannanshire.

“The recent storm has presented even more challenges to our staff who have been working hard to clear falling debris and floodwater which was affecting roads and was posing a safety risk.

“Their job becomes even more challenging when objects are deliberately left lying on the road or verge.

“We would urge residents to dispose of unwanted items in a responsible way."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of debris on the road around 10.45pm last night [Tuesday, August 11]; officers put signage in place and it was being dealt with by Clackmannanshire Council this morning."
