THE community at a Wee County primary school has come together to spread messages of kindness during the coronavirus lockdown.

Inspired by the Pom-Pom Tree in Tillicoultry as well as last week's kindness themed Mental Health Awareness Week, a tree has been dressed up at Craigbank Primary School in Sauchie.

The idea came from principal teacher Morag Jamieson, who set a challenge for all pupils, parents and teachers.

She asked the school community to think of others and create an item to be hung on or placed around the tree at the front of the school.

Siobhan Haldane, headteacher at the school, said: "The challenge was immediately and enthusiastically taken up by many and over the last week the families in Craigbank Primary School have begun to fill the tree with their amazing works of art.

"There are pom-poms, god's eyes, painted stones, messages, pictures even solar bulbs have been hung up.

"One of our families even went as far as to cut the grass around the tree.

"What amazing acts of kindness have been shown and is helping to show our togetherness and a feeling of still working together as team Craigbank.

"Well done Craigbank Primary School community."

The initiative sought to show that even during the lockdown the school is looking to live up to its vision: "Craigbank is a fun place to learn."

Indeed, throughout the coronavirus pandemic, teachers have been aiming to engage families in fund and exciting online learning challenges.

Thanks go to principal teacher Morag Jamieson for the idea and for kindly offering to make and place items on the tree for staff who live a distance away.
