CARE service users from throughout the Forth Valley descended on Alloa last week to get in the Christmas spirit with a traditional lunch.

Mears Care Home held the annual event at Alloa's Limetree House, the organisation's head office, where a number of people in the company's care had their Christmas lunch.

Among the guests from the Wee County, Falkirk, Stirling and beyond was a very special guest in the shape of Mary McKillop who was there celebrating her 106th birthday.

After everyone ate their lunch, they were treated to entertainment which had been put on by Alloa Academy pupils who brought their instruments along to assist in getting the attendees in the Christmas spirit.

Another special guest took him out of his busy schedule to make an appearance as Santa Claus turned up to say hello.

Carol Anderson, who represents Mears Care, told the Advertiser it was a great day for everyone involved.

She said: "The day went really well. Some of the people there get looked after by our staff who go into their homes every day and they all had a lovely day.

"It is mainly fun for the people who stay alone, so it's important for them to have some festive cheer."

Speaking about Mary, Carol said: "She a brilliant time watching the singing by Alloa Academy pupils before Santa's visit."

Mears Care at Home has its Scottish head office in Alloa but 20 branches throughout Scotland.

The firm provides care at home services across Scotland, through local authority contracts, looking after some 3,500 people in their own homes so they can remain living at home independently with a bit of extra care. Theresa Cull, who attended the party, is their Scottish director.
