THE former Royal Bank of Scotland on Alloa High Street has been sold at auction for a huge sum.

After the bank withdrew from the town in 2018, the building has lay empty until renovation works began on it in the last few months.

The building, which still contains two safe rooms, went under the hammer at the Marriott Hotel in Edinburgh on November 28 at a guide price of £110,000.

In the end, the building was snapped up for much higher than the value, eventually reaching £170,000 to an unknown bidder.

Although it is currently not clear who has bought the site, the auctioneer stated that the buyer was looking to use the ground floor for retail purposes while transforming the first floor back into residential properties.

Describing the property’s assets, the listing stated: “[It] is an attractive Category B listed, two storey, stone building. The first floor comprises offices, storage and a toilet and requires some refurbishment and the ground floor is a large, open plan area with communications room, office and two safe rooms off it.”
