TILLICOULTRY’S Firpark Ski Centre was the place to be over the weekend as Wee County residents turned up to try out the venue for free.

The slope was opened up to locals on Saturday and Sunday, October 12-13, in a bid to give newcomers a chance to try their hand at skiing and snowboarding.

Dozens of people came along, and staff at the centre say the event was a big success.

Jim Hamilton, a ski technician at the venue, told the Advertiser: “It was basically a come and try event.

“It was a free session so that people who have never skied before could get a taster of what it’s like.

“It was quite well attended – we had skiing on the Saturday and skiing and snowboarding on the Sunday, and 66 people came.

“It was great.”

People of all ages took part, and pictures from the day show that there were smiles all round.

And, thankfully, the weather was okay over both days as well.

Jim said: “On Saturday it was bright and sunny, and on Sunday it wasn’t too bad but there was a wee shower.”

Throughout the year, Firpark Ski Centre offers a wide range of snowsport activities on its 120m dry ski slope.
