DOZENS of Wee County students earned their honours at this week's University of Stirling Graduation.

All were celebrating as they took the next step in becoming the teachers, accountants and healthcare workers of the future.

Stirling had been ground zero for some torrential downpours just hours before the first day of graduations were set to begin.

However, some hard work and a little bit of sunshine made sure the events passed without a hitch.

Former First Minister The Rt Hon Jack McConnell conferred the degrees upon hundreds of students after he was installed as the University of Stirling's sixth chancellor.

Lord McConnell – a Stirling graduate – took up his official duties at a ceremony on June 25, where he was installed by Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerry McCormac.

Honourary doctorates were bestowed upon a number of well-deserved recipients including double-BAFTA award winning director Hamish Hamilton; World Cup winning footballer Lillian Thuram; and Outlander star Sam Heughan.

Lord McConnell said: "The University of Stirling is a special place. The campus community, the innovative course design and assessment, and the commitment to wider access have given this place a permanent home in the hearts of those who have studied here.

"I feel truly honoured to return to the University to serve as chancellor, and I am looking forward to my first ceremonies this week when I can congratulate all graduates and honorary graduates on their achievements."
