PARENTS and carers in Stirling can get help supporting their children with subject and career choices at an upcoming event.

Scotland’s careers service, Skills Development Scotland (SDS), is opening the doors of its Stirling centre on the evening of Thursday 28 March for parents and carers to drop in.

Careers advisers will be on hand from 4-7pm to talk about how best to support your child to make informed subject career choices, as well as answering questions on local opportunities and jobs.

SDS Team Leader in Stirling Lynsey Davidson said: “This free event is a chance for parents and carers to ask questions and have a chat over coffee and cake.

“We can offer support on subject choices, and more information on the variety of routes young people can take after school including apprenticeships, college, university, volunteering and working.

“Parents and carers of third to sixth year pupils can also find out more about all the support we offer year-round in schools, from our Stirling centre and online.”

The event takes place at the SDS centre at 66 Upper Craigs, Stirling, FK8 2DS. It is aimed at parents and carers of pupils from S3 to S6.

SDS is Scotland’s careers service, with professionally-qualified careers advisers working from its careers centres, community premises and in every state secondary school across Scotland.

Parents and carers can head to mykidscareer.com which offers information on current and future jobs in demand, the routes into those careers, and hints and tips on handling conversations with your child about those opportunities at the times that matter.

Career information and advice is also available online via SDS’s award-winning career information and advice web service myworldofwork.co.uk
