AMBITIOUS proposals for the redesign of the centre of Battlefield and Battlefield Road will go on public display.

From Tuesday, March 19 for three weeks locals will get the chance to see the the Battlefield Street Design project plans, which are being delivered jointly by Sustrans Scotland and Glasgow City Council.

The project aims to make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to walk and cycle through the area and to improve the quality of the public spaces.

So far 13 events have been held locally with more than 700 attendees to gather information and develop design ideas, including on street workshops, design sessions and audits with local people and young people at Shawlands Academy and Battlefield Primary school and Langside College.

Meetings have also been held with local people, business owners and representative groups alongside detailed survey and analysis work.

An informal drop in event will be held at Langside Library on March 19 between 3pm and 8pm.

People can drop in anytime to view the design proposals, ask the team questions and leave feedback.

A short presentation will be held at 5pm and again at 7pm.

The full design proposals will be in booklets placed at Langside Library and Langside Parish Church.

Rowena Colpitts, Sustrans Scotland, said: "We are delighted to be working with the community around Battlefield and Glasgow City Council to make improvements to the Battlefield Rest junction and surrounding area.

"Whether you live, work or travel through Battlefield, we need your input to ensure the design proposals work for the whole community, so please come along and tell us what improvements should be made to your local area."

Councillor Anna Richardson, City Convener for Sustainability and Carbon Reduction, added: “This project is a fantastic opportunity for the community to involve itself at every stage of redesigning their neighbourhood and help to shape a safer, more pleasant environment for walking and cycling.

"The level of engagement we’ve received so far demonstrates that people want improvements.

"I’m looking forward to residents’ feedback on these exciting consultation proposals."
