THE partner of the murdered Kyle Watt has told his trial that he was “the love of her life” as she recalled the night he died.

Her evidence was given on Friday, as two charges of assault were dropped against Mark Harrison, who is on trial for the murder which took place on March 3 of this year.

The woman, who said she wasn’t sure if she was 27 or 26, told the court that she saw him being murdered before running barefoot in the snow to her mum’s house to phone the police.

As the fourth day of the trial got underway, she told the High Court in Edinburgh that she was “hit on the head with a baseball bat and lost six teeth” but said that she “could not be sure who hit her”.

Speaking to Bill McVicar, advocate depute, the witness said that Mark and Barry, who has already pleaded guilty to the murder, walked into the living room and immediately grabbed a female witness by the hair, telling her to “shut the f*** up” before throwing her on to a couch.

Another male witness apparently then stood up and said: “Nothing to do with me boys,” contrary to other claims that he had been upstairs at the time the brothers entered flat 15 of Pine Grove.

After Mr Watt attempted to run away and was brought back in, the woman claims that both brothers started to assault him, with one allegedly saying the other: “Bro, where’s the blade? Who’s got the blade?”.

The witness then told the jury that she was “ushered” out the flat by Barry, and claimed she was told: “If I was ever to repeat that he was in there that he would be back for me.”

With the distressed woman visibly upset, angry and potentially intoxicated, the court took a number of adjournments as Mr Stewart, one of Mark’s defence agents, claimed she was lying about portions of her evidence.

She told the court that her and Mr Watt had “plans for the future” as she admitted that Barry regularly bought drugs from him and was at the flat two days prior, confirming some of the 44-year-old’s testimony from the day before.

Mr Stewart then put it to her that she had “made up” her evidence, citing a police statement she gave on March 4 which does not have any claims that another female witness was grabbed by the hair when they arrived.

The woman also failed to tell police about the alleged exchange between the brothers about who had the “blade”.

The allegation that the evidence was made up provoked an angry reaction with the woman saying: “Don’t treat me as if I’m silly. How dare you. I would never make this up,” before producing a framed photograph of Mr Watt from beneath her jumper.

The Crown then told Lord Kinclaven that they had no more witnesses and announced that charges one and three against Mark had been dropped, leaving just the murder charge.

Mr Stewart confirmed that the accused would not take the stand and that they were presenting no evidence.

The closing speeches were due to take place today [Monday] before the jury begin their deliberations.
