A TULLIBODY nursery is equipped with a life-saving device thanks to the fundraising efforts of the youngsters and staff.

Glenview Cottage Nursery now proudly boasts a defibrillator with owners encouraging the public to keep the vital piece of equipment in mind during weekdays, should it be required.

It will be available at the Ochil Street premises, in close proximity to the shopping precinct at Tron Court, during weekdays between 8am and 6pm for cardiac arrest emergencies.

And it was only thanks to the efforts of young people that the private nursery managed to secure the device for the children had a big role in raising the cash.

Some of the money came from the nursery’s annual charity fundraiser where donations were split between the defibrillator fund and Strathcarron Hospice.

That netted around £500, but twice that much was needed so the children got crafty, making and decorating photo frames and inserting a picture of themselves.

They were more than happy to get involved and the items then went on sale for parents whose generous donations made sure the device can be put in place.

Heather O’Hagan, owner and manager, said: “We (staff) are all trained to use a defib so we thought it was just a bit crazy that we are all trained to use it and we don’t have one.

“And I know that at the moment, there’s certainly not one within the community in Tullibody.”

Meanwhile, the nursery was also proud to have been awarded with its Eco Green Flag from the Eco-Schools organisation for its hard work.

Heather added: “We are so chuffed, it’s a real achievement and they were really complimentary on what we do within the nursery and the community as far as eco awareness goes.”
