A FOOD project in Stirling has been shortlisted for an award.
Forth Environment Link’s Stirling NeighbourFood, formerly the Food Assembly, has been nominated for an innovation award by Scottish Rural Action.
It recognises the charity’s efforts over the past two years in making locally grown or produced food available to local residents through its online platform.
It benefits both customers and producers, who get to keep 80 per cent of the sales compared to around 20 per cent through a supermarket, while reducing the distance between farm and fork.
Emily Harvey, development manager at Forth Environment Link, said: “Stirling NeighbourFood allows local people to buy a wide variety of produce from local farms and producers, drastically cutting down the number of food miles normally associated with the weekly food shop.
“We sell everything from fruit and vegetables to cakes and small batch hand roasted coffee.
“Although orders are placed online, collections are made in person so customers get a chance to talk to the people who grow or make their food.
“It’s a great way of bringing producers and customers closer together and encouraging people to appreciate the real value of their food.”
