THE annual Crieff 10k trail race took place at the weekend with 250 runners taking part.

A scenic route took them west from the Morrison’s playing fields at Dallerie, over Laggan Hill to Trowan farm and back to Dallerie via Lady Mary’s Walk.

It was a near-record field in sweltering heat and local runner and Scotland internationalist Sol Sweeney clinched victory with a time of 34.49 in the men’s race.

Central Athletic’s Scott Brember took second in 36.32 with Gordon Mathoeson of Falkland Trail Runners taking third with 36.53.

First in the women’s race was Louise Tyler of Dunblane Road Runners in 42.09.

She was followed by Maddy Watson of organisers Strathearn Harriers in 43.32, she was also first local woman, with Hilary Robinson coming third in 44.29.

More joy for the home team – Levi Sweeney took first in the junior race.

The club thanked all the volunteers who helped out and to sponsors The Handy Shop, Highland Spring, The Famous Grouse Experience and Run and Become.

Thanks also go to everyone who brought donations for the Crieff Food Bank.

Catch the harriers during Crieff Kids Week this weekend – they will be holding junior sessions on July 17 and 19 at Taylor Park, between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
