SCHOOLS across Strathallan will see a number of improvements over the next few years thanks to the budget approved by the council this month.

A further 20million investment was pledged at the council meeting, bringing the total investment into improving and upgrading schools to over 62million over the next few years. Plans are in the pipeline to bring a new Crieff Primary School to Strathearn, expand play areas at Dunning Primary and relocate Braco Nursery to Greenloaning Primary School.

Strathallan councillor Tom Gray has welcomed the budget saying it brings "great news to Strathallan and Strathearn" and will allow upgrades and improvements to take place in local schools over the next few years.

Council leaderIan Miller in his capital budget speech said: "Our ambition is to plan for and build a positive future for our communities - our priorities are: Firstly securing the best possible learning environments for young people; secondly to develop our infrastructure to meet growing demand and changing lifestyles.

"These priorities will create jobs and provide opportunities for businesses across Perth and Kinross." "This afternoon, I am proposing a total investment of more than 62million in schools. This investment of more than 62million in the school estate over the next five years means that 66 percent, or two-thirds of our pupils, will be learning in modern, state of the art facilities.

"This new funding for schools, together with existing and future investment, will bring huge improvements. Everyone knows that appropriate surroundings can help pupils flourish and we are committed to providing them. It will provide for new sports provision, improvements to classrooms and extensions to schools.

"Ultimately however, it will provide the up to date facilities needed to prepare students for the modern workplace and allow pupils to achieve their full potential." Although the schools and headteachers could not comment on the proposed stages as they are at an early stage a council spokeswoman told the Strathallan Times: "The council is making major investment of 62m into improving school facilities around Perth and Kinross including the Strathearn and Strathallan areas to enhance provision for the benefit of pupils and staff.

"Funding identified for Dunning relates to the planned purchase of land and associated works to extend the school's playground space. Further details of the projects relating to Braco and Greenloaning will be announced in due course."
