ALLOA are on the hunt for pre-season friendly opponents after St Mirren and Dunfermline pulled out of arranged fixtures.

The Wasps had been due to test their new-look side against the Saints and Pars as part of their preparations for life in the Championship.

St Mirren's recent change in management may well be the likely cause of the U-turn there, while Dunfermline will play against other teams.

The game against Clyde will still go ahead this weekend, though manager Jim Goodwin admits he wants two more games before the start of the Betfred Cup on July 17.

He told Advertiser Sport: "It's frustrating but there's not much we can do about, we just have to get on with it.

"I thought I was doing really well and was really organised in having those games set down for pre-season, but what can you do?

"I 'd like four friendlies but it'll be hard now to try and find the right opposition as most will already have their friendlies scheduled.

"We may look to have a closed door game, a game against a junior side or maybe a bounce game among ourselves if we have the numbers."

Goodwin remains hopeful of adding to the squad in the near future, with a central defender and left back among the priorities.

The gaffer is also looking at recruiting another striker to provide competition at the top end of the squad.

He said: "We've made a few offers to few players and we're just waiting to hear back.

"We'll also be looking to dip into the loan market again, but we need to be patient.

"A lot of managers like to run the rule over their players in pre-season before they decided what to do with them."

He added: "We would have liked to have brought one or more by this stage, but I'm still hopeful of having some in place before the start of the Betfred Cup.

"I still need a centre half and left back, and I'd like another striker. Everywhere else, I'm quite happy with and I'm lucky enough to have players who can play a lot of positions.

"That's important because we want competition for places all over the park."

The Wasps have been returning to training bit by bit over the last two weeks as the players take holidays and spend time with their families.

Goodwin said: "The players have been working hard in training, thought it is still a bit of a frustrating time of year for managers. A lot of players are still on holidays so we haven't had the whole team together yet.

"That's just part time football – there's not much you can do. They all need a break and this is only time where some can get away."

Tickets for this Saturday's tie are available at the Clyde FC website, with officials reminding fans that only 300 tickets can be sold, due to stewards available.
