ALLOA boss Jim Goodwin was frustrated after his side twice took the lead against Airdrieonians, only to come away from their League One clash with a draw.

The Wasps dominated the first half, and the manager was delighted with the way his players performed in the opening 45 minutes.

But after they struggled to get going after half time, he admitted the stalemate was a fair result.

Goodwin told Advertiser Sport: “There is a little bit of frustration after the game.

“We started the game ever so well and Jordan Kirkpatrick has had a chance in the first minute of the game to put us one up. In the first half we had a lot of the ball and created a lot of opportunities. We probably could have scored another couple of goals.

“In the second half we just never got started and that was the most frustrating thing for me.

"The message at half time was to go and do the same again, but we did the polar opposite. We expected them to come out and start better than they did in the first half but at the same time, I think we need to be better than that.

“We kept going and we have had opportunities as the game went on. I thought we finished stronger and if anyone was going to go on and win it, it was going to be us. But overall, I think the draw was probably a fair result.”

Goodwin was particularly unhappy with the way his side conceded their second equaliser, and reckons it came about as a result of a conservative approach at the start of the second half.

He said: “When you sit back and try and defend like that goals will come. It was a decent goal from Airdrie’s point of view, but a poor one for us.

"Darryl Duffy got the ball far too easily around our 18-yard box. I think we could have done a lot more in the build-up to stop the goal.”

However, with the Wasps due to take on Airdrie once again as the Advertiser goes to print, the manager believes his side dealt with their opponents’ threat well.

Goodwin added: “We know Airdrie are dangerous on the break and we spoke about that before the game. They have good players in attacking areas of the pitch, and they’ve got good pace as well with players who can hurt you. I thought we managed that particularly well in the first half.”
