SAUCHIE boss Fraser Duncan believes his side’s hammering of Jeanfield Swifts was the kind of result they had threatened to produce for months.

The Juniors blew their Super League opponents away with a six-goal rampage at Beechwood Park, opening up an eight-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone in the process.

And the manager was thrilled with his players after their emphatic victory.

Duncan told Advertiser Sport: “That’s the sort of result that’s been coming for a while. We’ve been getting good results against the teams at the top of the table, and we should have been doing that against the teams at the bottom. The performance just shows the level we are at just now.

“The rain was coming down all day and that obviously makes the park very heavy and difficult to play on.

"But the boys were brilliant and despite the conditions, they played some excellent football. It was exactly the kind of performance I was looking for.

“I’m delighted. We created so many chances and we could even have had another couple. We are definitely on the rise and we’ve got to keep that going now.

“We’ve taken maximum points from out last three league games and I’d have jumped at the chance of taking even six points from those games beforehand.

"We are the in-form team in the league at the minute and we have to keep that going. We have a good squad of players.”

Sauchie have now not lost in the league in almost five months, and after a poor start to the season, Duncan is now targeting a top-half finish.

He said: “That battle is still there but I’d like to think we are now climbing clear of that. Next week’s game up at Forfar is massive and if we can get maximum points there it’s a massive step towards staying in the league.

“Our sights are on finishing in a good position. We’d like to finish mid-table and if you look at our form at the minute, we could go higher still.

"We could finish in the top half and that’s what we are pushing for. That would be a marvellous achievement for us. It’s there for us with the kind of performances we’ve been putting in.”

Trialist goalkeeper Graham Bowman impressed as he made his debut, and the manager admitted he would love to bring the stopper to Sauchie as a permanent addition.

Duncan added: “Graham came in to help us because Darren Dolan picked up a knock and he did really, really well.

"He had a solid game and me and Adrian are keen to get a deal done if we can, because he is a good keeper. Ewan Herriot came on at right-back as well so he will have a couple of weeks’ training with us and we will see if we can get something sorted."
