ALLOA star Daryll Meggatt has his sights set on the Wasps’ Scottish Cup clash with Dundee United as he inches closer to fitness following an injury layoff.

The defender suffered a leg break in a freak training ground accident but is hopeful of making a comeback after the turn of the year.

And the former Dundee man is desperate to be involved when the Tannadice side visit the Indodrill Stadium on January 28.

Meggatt told Advertiser Sport: “Being optimistic, I’m aiming to be involved in the Dundee United game at the end of January. It would obviously be great to play a part in that as a former Dundee player. You have got to give yourself something to work towards to help keep you motivated to work hard and get back fit.

“I’m not going to force it because I don’t want to give myself a setback but Gerry Docherty and Jordan Cleland [sports therapist], the physios, are looking after me well. Having guys like them around is a huge positive for the club and we’re very lucky to have them.”

The 27-year-old said he can’t wait to get back involved, and revealed that he has already begun attending training.

He said: “I’ll hopefully only have the protective boot on for another two weeks. I’ve started coming back into training to do some physiotherapy work so I am getting there.

“It’s not until you’re out injured that you realise how much you miss it. As soon as something like this happens you are just itching to get back playing.”

Meggatt admitted he has been frustrated at not being able to be involved but praised his team-mates for their good form, which has seen them win six games out of eight and climb into the League One playoff places.

He added: “Watching the boys from the sidelines is obviously very frustrating because you’re not able to affect what’s going on on the pitch but it’s definitely a lot easier when the team is winning. We have been in good form and that’s meant there’s been a bit less pressure on me to rush back.”
