SAUCHIE assistant manager Adrian Hanson insisted that changes will be made in the wake of last Saturday’s humiliation at the hands of Broxburn Athletic.

The Wee County side were beaten 5-0 on their own patch as their tough start to life back in the Super League continued.

And Hanson hinted that some players could be on their way out of Beechwood Park as the Juniors look to arrest the slide.

He told Advertiser Sport: “There will be changes made and the players were told that in no uncertain terms. Some of them will be under no illusions that their career here could be coming to an end. They have got nobody to blame apart from themselves.

“Some of the guys want praise for working hard and trying their best but when you get paid to do a job, trying your best is the bare minimum.

“The goals we have been giving away are criminal and that’s what really frustrates myself and Fraser. No team has had to work hard to get chances against us.

"Some of the mental strength in our squad leaves a lot to be desired. Some of them think they are Super League players but the harsh reality is they are miles away.

"But the players we have are still good enough to be doing a lot better than they are at the minute.”

Despite a host of regulars being unavailable for Saturday’s clash, Hanson says he still expected the players chosen to put up a fight against a side he feels they should be matching.

He said: “We were seven boys short and out of those, six were first-team players. But that’s no excuse for the performance some of the guys put in on Saturday. They really let us down.

"Broxburn are a team we should be looking to take something from. I don’t think anyone would say that on paper they are a far better side than us. We should certainly be competing with them.

“The frustrating thing for us is that we’ve played a lot of games where we’ve deserved to take more than we have. But Saturday was the worst performance so far.

"Some people were given an opportunity and just didn’t take it. We’re not in a position where we can have seven first-team players out and just go and bring in more who are of the same standard.”

Hanson is desperate for Sauchie to get back to their best when they take on Tranent in the East of Scotland Cup on Saturday, but he warned his players that the Premier League side will be fired up for the clash.

He added: “It’s a massive cup game. The guys at Tranent will be one hundred per cent up for Saturday. The chance of a place in the next round of the cup gives us a huge incentive to go and do the job.

"It’s a huge opportunity because it’s a break from the league. But Tranent are an extremely good team so there’s no chance we will get anything for free.”
