FANS’ favourite Jordan Kirkpatrick reckons his Alloa side deserved all three points from their League One clash with Livingston last Saturday.

Kirkpatrick put the Wasps in front but Livi scored two goals either side of half time to take the lead, forcing the Wee County side to come from behind as they have done so often in recent weeks.

And the midfielder admitted a slack start to the second half had cost his side dear.

Kirkpatrick told Advertiser Sport: “In the first half we were dominant and were a bit unlucky not to go in at half time in front. Our downfall recently has been in the way we have been starting the second half and we were a bit sloppy. We haven’t been sharp enough and we were punished for it again, but we came back into the game and managed to get the draw which is not a bad result.

“We have been going behind quite a bit and have had to fight back in a few games so that is definitely something we need to work on. We will work hard over the next few weeks to make sure that we improve.

“It is a bit frustrating at times but you are going to get spells like this in football where things don’t go your way and you have to fight for every point. As long as we keep on fighting as best we can and picking up points we will be happy.”

Kirkpatrick’s opener came as a result of a mistake from Lions keeper Liam Kelly, and he revealed that assistant manager Paddy Connolly and teammate Craig McDowall have been urging him to try his luck in anticipation of errors.

He said: “Paddy and Craig have both been telling me to shoot more, because mistakes do happen in football from time to time. I just had a go not really thinking anything of it, and thankfully it has gone through the keeper’s hands. I wasn’t expecting it but I will take it.”

The Wasps have a break from competitive action with this weekend’s would-be opponents in Scottish Cup action, but Kirkpatrick insists that they will be working as hard as ever.

He said: “The manager has arranged a friendly for us so we won’t be resting on our laurels. We will still be tuned in ahead of the Queen’s Park game. That will be a tough game for us. They are a good side, especially at home, but the pitch at Hampden is big so hopefully we can get the ball moving about a bit more.”
