ALLOA boss Jim Goodwin declared himself satisfied with a point following last Saturday’s draw with Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill.

Scott Taggart put the Wasps ahead in the first half but Ross Stewart pegged them back with 20 minutes remaining before a concerted onslaught from the home side threatened to inflict a second consecutive league defeat on the Wasps.

But they held firm, and the Wasps boss admitted he was happy enough with the result.

Goodwin told Advertiser Sport: “I think it was a fair result in the end. We were the better team in the first half but credit to Rovers, they came out after half time and were the better side. They put us under a lot of pressure. I didn’t think we managed the game well enough in the second half to be honest. We allowed them the opportunity to break on numerous occasions and we tried to stem that but unfortunately we weren’t able to hold on. Draws are killing us but I think, given the way the game was going, that it is a decent point.

“It’s the first time we have gone ahead in a game for a while so we were delighted to be a goal up at half time. Clean sheets are massive and the goal we lost was poor from our point of view. I am a bit disappointed with the marking. But towards the end we had to dig in and it might prove to be a valuable point.”

Goodwin handed teenage goalkeeper Andrew Wilson his senior debut and revealed he had no hesitation in bringing the youngster in to replace the injured Neil Parry.

He said: “Andy was excellent. I had every confidence in him before the game. He trains with the first team every week and he is a fantastic prospect. His distribution and decision-making are great and he has a good temperament as well. I was reluctant to go out and get another keeper in when we have Andy here and I am really pleased for him. It’s just disappointing we weren’t able to hold on for the clean sheet his performance deserved.”

The Wasps return to the Indodrill Stadium to face leaders Livingston on Saturday, and Goodwin says the game is a must-win for his side if they are to catch their promotion rivals.

He added: “The Livingston game is huge. They are top of the table for a reason. They are a very, very good team and we know what lies in store but it is a game we have to go and win. It is as simple as that. We still believe we can catch them but we need to start picking up wins, and the two games we have left against them will be vital. There is no point in us throwing the towel in.”
