ALLOA defender Jason Marr admitted he was gutted following his side’s League One defeat to Peterhead.

The centre-back’s misjudged header let Leighton McIntosh in to score the only goal of the game, and Marr reckons the Wasps were punished for a poor start to the second half.

Despite that, he believes his side performed well, particularly in the first half of last Saturday’s game.

Marr told Advertiser Sport: “It is very disappointing given how well we played in the first half. We just didn’t start the second half in the same fashion and we got punished for it.

"I wasn’t sure if the boy was offside but I felt like I had to go and win the header. It has gone straight to one of their players and put him through. To be fair to him he finished it really well.”

The Wasps missed the chance to close the gap to league leaders Livingston to six points, but Marr says when the time comes to face the West Lothian side, the squad will be fired up to prove they are just as good as their title rivals.

He said: “It is a massive chance missed. With their game being called off we had the opportunity to take the gap down to six points but we haven’t taken it.

"That is very disappointing. Every game is important but it adds a bit extra to our game against Livi now. We haven’t beaten them or done ourselves justice against them so we will be right up for that and hoping to prove that we are just as good as them, if not better.”

The defender revealed he is looking forward to Saturday’s Scottish Cup clash with Dunfermline and says the game is one for supporters of both sides to relish.

Marr added: “The cup game is massive. We beat them in the playoffs a few years ago so I am sure they will be out for a bit of revenge. It is a huge game and it’s a good one for the fans to look forward to as well.

"They will be looking forward to it, and I’m sure with Dunfermline being just down the road there will be a good bit of banter between the two sets of fans as well.”
