BOBBY WALES called Alloa’s third goal the biggest of his career so far as he fired his side into the playoffs.

The on-loan Kilmarnock hitman scored twice with his second strike proving to be the winner against Cove Rangers on Saturday.

Wales’ two goals, along with Miko Virtanen’s first half header, guaranteed the Wasps a third place finish and a spot in the playoff semi final against Hamilton next month.

Speaking to Advertiser Sport after the match, the youngster hailed Alloa’s character to drive forward and find a winner.

“100 per cent my biggest goal,” Wales said. “Not just at Alloa but my whole career because it’s a short one so far!

“We knew that we had a good chance [today] because we have a good record against Cove and that’s twice we’ve got last minute winners here.

“It’s really good for the team and really good for our character and that’s all we can ask of the boys.

“The gaffer put three things on the whiteboard before the game and the top one was ‘work harder’ and he said that for a hybrid club, we’re miles fitter and we showed that.

“To consistently keep going forward, even Ethan in the last minute, he takes on all three guys and I thankfully score.

“I was ecstatic. I can’t even put it into words, I thought ‘was it actually me who scored?’

“To then have all the boys run all the way down and to be on the TV and have all the families watching, it’s a great moment.

“It shows we can do whatever we put our mind to at the moment.”

Wales has been electric since coming in to Alloa at the start of the season under Brian Rice and found his goalscoring form against Montrose in December.

Since then, he has kicked on and now has 12 goals under his belt and is sure to add more to his tally with four, or possibly six games remaining.

Alloa face Hamilton in the playoff semi-final next month, with the three meetings between the teams so far being very tight between the teams.

Hamilton grabbed a last minute winner in the first game, the second was a goalless draw and then Jon Robertson scored a last ditch effort in the last meeting.

Wales is backing Alloa to give it to Hamilton across the two legs and is hoping to keep momentum built throughout the season.

“The way it happened was brilliant,” Wales said. “The character in the team every time, even when we go 2-1 and then back to 2-2.

“We show character in the team to go and win the game like that, it’s just a great changing room that we have.

“We can’t lose it going into the playoffs and I think we’ve got a really good chance of going up if we continue what we have.

“It just shows we can keep going and keep going, we know there’s never a limit for us and that’s what we can do.

“We have a good record against Hamilton and if we keep this momentum, we’ve got a great chance.”
