THE Knights Cadets continued their unbeaten start to the season with an impressive 83-75 win away at Paisley Basketball club, a result which gives them a big advantage as they case the National League title.

The away side knew this would be a tough encounter versus an under-16 team unbeaten in three years and a team they have never been able to overcome.

From the start both teams set off at a rip roaring pace which had them making unforced errors, however, it was the Stirling team able to get into a rhythm first and at the end of the first quarter they had carved out an eight point lead.

The game from there on in was nip and tuck and both teams shared the points for the remainder of proceedings.

Great performances throughout the team, none less that the 71 points contributed from the Scotland trio of Louis Sullivan, Rob Gilmour and Ewan McCormick.

The large crowd through in Renfrew were treated to some high quality basketball from both teams at the top of their game and topped off by Louis Sullivan’s trademark slam dunk and Ewan McCormick hitting five three pointers from seven attempts.

Coach Les McGlasson said: “It’s great to see the club challenging the top national league teams in Scotland. The time spent developing Basketball throughout the community is now starting to pay off in the top tier in Scotland with 11 from the 12 man squad starting basketball via the Stirling Knights primary school cluster clubs."

The Knights other squads lost out to their Paisley hosts, with the senior men going close in a 83-77 loss.

An overall great performance came down to some dubious calls and the luck seemed to not be on the Knights side. The under-18 Men also lost 86-74 with the young cadette women side losing 75-38.

Knights Under 18 Girls have joined forces with local rivals Falkirk Fury to create a new team 'Knights Fury Central'. The team played their first match losing to St Mirren but with time on their side results should improve. Knights Chairman Pete Duncan said "The numbers were dwindling for U18 Girls and its a big issue across Scotland. We feel that by joining with Fury who were in a similar position, it give the girls the best chance to keep competing at the top level moving forward."
