Doune Castle football report:

Doune Castle 3

St Mungo’s 1

Sean Heaver’s late goal sealed the points for a lacklustre Castle side who laboured for much of the game against a resolute and battling Mungo.

After both sides had wasted decent opportunities, Doune broke the deadlock after 35 minutes.

Kenny Feaks threaded a pinpoint ball through the middle to Alan More, who had broken into the box wide on the right.

As the keeper advanced to narrow the angle, from 14 yards More deftly slid the ball into the net at the far post, with Sean Heaver perfectly placed to usher the ball home. Doune led 1-0.

Chris Ogilvie made it 2-0 after 38 minutes with a terrific strike.

Alan More duped the St Mungo backline with the deftest of touches that gave Chris Ogilvie a clear route on goal.

Ogilvie wasted no time in driving into the box and rifling a rising, left-foot shot from 17 yards high into the net.

However, within a minute, St Mungo’s made it 2-1. Steven Fotheringham hit his pass woefully short and straight to St Mungo’s striker Mooney.

He calmly drove the ball into the unguarded net from 22 yards.

After the interval, Doune enjoyed the better of the play, but with St Mungo’s always dangerous on the counter-attack.

Sean Heaver settled the Castle nerves with the decisive third goal after 87 minutes.

Niall McClure moved the ball forward to Heaver, powering forward from his left wing berth.

Heaver charged into the box and from 16 yards, hammered an unstoppable angled drive beyond Bradley and into the far corner to make it 3-1.

In the end, Doune were worthy of their win, but made life difficult for themselves with some over-indulgent play.
