BANNOCKBURN exited the West of Scotland Cup in a frustrating game for players and supporters alike.

Within 10 seconds Michael Weir had a shot that went wide. It was the first of many Burn chances that were to go-a-begging.

Before seven minutes were over the visitor’s centre forward shot from outside of the box to put Burn one down.

The half progressed as an even kind of cup tie. A super cross from Darren Walker at the end of the first quarter gave Steven Knox a headed equaliser.

On 23 minutes an Allan Green shot was blocked in the box. The next chance fell to Harry Bruce. Although suspiciously off side the ref continued the play and Harry sclaffed his attempt wide. Walker was next to almost go through on goal.

On 37 a breakaway led to the Gourock attacker out pacing John McGregor to slot the ball past the burn Keeper. 1:2 at half time.

First chance of the second half fell to the visitors quickly followed by a Gary Currie shot after four minutes. Kenneth McLellan came on for Allan Green. Steven Knox and Ross Cavanagh were replaced by Jazz Donaldson and Nick McIntosh.

On 67 minutes a Gary Currie goal bound attempt was cleared off the line. On 75 minutes David Donaldson replaced Michael Weir.

A Burn corner Darren Walker bulleted header brought Burn back into the game. From the centre Gourock immediately scored making it 2-3.

With Burn pressing hard a penalty was given. David Donaldson hit the post. Burn continued the press and had several decent chances.

So Burn exit the West before Christmas at their own doing.

Thanks to Tartan Arms for the post-match hospitality.
