BANNOCKBURN progressed to the third round of the West of Scotland cup with a decent home win over Shawlands FPs.
The early pressure was exerted by Burn including a snap shot by James Graham. As the half progressed however Burn seemed to struggle to get width with the resulting of blunting their attacks. Darren Walker missed what seemed a good chance on the half hour. On 37 a James (Jazz) Donaldson cross allowed Stephen Knox to guide his header past the Shawlands keeper. Burn looked to get a second but the half finished with no further scoring.
On 55 Shawlands earned a corner, the Burn defence gave them a free header which was duly despatched making it one a piece. With hardly a chance for the home support to say déjà vu, James Graham restored Burn’s lead with a deflected shot.
Barry Evans came on for younger brother Ross on the hour, followed by Mark Flynn for Jazz Donaldson. A Burn third punctuated the substitutions with another deflection giving internationalist Kenny McLellan a goal.
Michael Weir and Ross Cavanagh came on for James Graham and Darren Walker. With five minutes remaining Knox got Burn’s fourth and his second after some swift interplay involving David Donaldson, Allan Green and Cavanagh.
With the game in its death throes, Shawlands hit the post so it finished four one.
