ACTIVE Stirling's curling development officer Hammy McMillan has qualified with his team mates to represent Scotland at the forthcoming European Curling Championships in Braehead.

Hammy is a member of team Brewster who had to compete in a three way playdown against team Murdoch and team Smith at the Dewars Centre in Perth for the right to represent Scotland.

Hammy is Active Stirling's curling development officer and in his day job helps support the network of local curling clubs, develop the grassroots of the sport for adults and children as well as providing coaching programmes for more experienced curlers at The Peak. Anyone wanting to give curling a shot should check out trycurling.com to find the next beginners session at The Peak.

Hammy will represent Scotland from November 19-26 at the Le Gruyere AOP European Championships along with his team mates Ross Paterson, Glen Muirhead and skip Tom Brewster. Team Brewster will join 26 other nations at the championships which will be one of the biggest sporting events in Scotland this year.

Team Scotland's line up will be completed with Team Muirhead after familiar faces to The Peak ice rink, Eve Muirhead, Kelly Schafer, Vicki Adams and Lauren Gray won their playdown at Perth as well.

Hammy explained that he was delighted and honoured to represent Scotland. He said: “I'm absolutely delighted. It’s a fantastic honour whenever you get the chance to represent your country, but this time is special. This is my first European championships and being able to represent Scotland, in Scotland, in front of a home crowd in Glasgow it's an incredible feeling. It’s going to be amazing having all the home support. Especially that of Active Stirling who are a huge supporter of what I do, and allow me the time to train and compete to help me reach the top of my sport."
