BANNOCKBURN Bowling Club hosted its junior club finals day with a fantastic final match seeing Erin McKinlay take the junior title against Aaron Gibson.

The under 12s showcased their skills that they have gained from the free Monday after school club held at the club where, for no charge at all, the club coached and developed the P4-P7’s bowling skills. This fantastic outreach programme saw volunteer coaches visit each school in the Bannockburn learning community and deliver a brief chat to promote the club as well as show the pupils bowling equipment and even have a game in the classroom.

The after school club attracted around 20 players from across the community and after a few weeks a select group was encouraged to attend a development squad on Saturday mornings to push these kids on to competitive bowls.

The club applied for funding through ClubSport Stirling to purchase some equipment and were delighted to receive £200 towards the cost of some development standard bowls.

Active Stirling’s club development officer, Allen Gibson said: "It’s great to see such a great Club receiving funding towards developing bowls in the Bannockburn Community. The Club relies solely on volunteers to manage and develop the club as well as coach and bring on bowlers of the future. The money received will go towards performance bowls, allowing the club to keep coaching sessions free and therefore making the game even more attractive to players and parents alike.”
