A BROTHER battered his younger sister over a row about her vacuuming while he was trying to sleep.

Mohammed Aziz grabbed his 20-year-old sister by the throat, pushed her, punched her on the head and threw her to the floor.

The pair had begun arguing over the noise of the vacuum cleaner when the 22-year-old lost his temper.

Aziz's mother and the victim's twin sister watched as he carried out the attack at the family home on Melville Street in Pollokshields.

Their mum tried to separate them and managed to pull Aziz away before police arrived at the scene.

In defence of the attack, which happened on March 5, 2017, Aziz's lawyer said Aziz and his younger siblings were giving £50 a week to their father who was not spending the money on the household, as he said he would.

Tensions about the cash had been running high before the assault with Aziz believing his sister was in cahoots with their dad.

The court was told Aziz's dad was using his sister's bank account.

Prior to the assault, which happened around 11am, Aziz had been arguing with his mum about the money.

Aziz lived at the family home with both parents and his three siblings.

However, since the attack his father and sister have moved out and now live in a separate property.

The lawyer said: "Matters had come to a head on the morning in question and a family split has now occurred.

"He is trying to reconcile with his sister and make amends with her. He accepts he should never have acted in this way."

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Aziz works full time in a takeaway, where he has been employed since the age of 15, as well as being a carer for his younger brother, who has a muscle disorder.

Sheriff Lindsay Wood said: "You should not have attacked your sister.

"You should not attack any woman - or any one."

Aziz was order to pay a fine of £500, reduced from £600 as he made an early guilty plea.
