A BROTHER and sister found themselves in the dock after a street fight with a 16-year-old girl in Glasgow city centre.

Stephanie Aitken, 20 and Aaron Alexander Hawkins, 22 admitted their part in the incident which happened on October 1 at Clyde Street.

The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court that the victim had met with a group of friends including Aitken, who was unknown to her.

The group were hanging around opposite the Euro Hostel on Clyde Street when two street pastors approached them.

They were engaged in conversation with the victim when Aitken approached and asked her: “So you f***ing Polish?”

When the victim answered and said: “Do you have a problem with that?”

Aitken became aggressive, pulled her victim’s hair and started punching her to the face.

The street pastors moved away from the fight, and witnessed Aitken, of Craighouse Street, pull her victim’s hair again.

Aitken called the girl a Polish cow and slut.

The street pastors attempted to intervene and Hawkins, who is in custody, arrived.

He lashed out at the victim and attempted to punch her.

One of the street pastors contacted the police.

The victim was left with swelling to the left side of the face.

Hawkins defence agent Mr Keenan told the court: “He saw that his sister was being assaulted. He wanted to intervene to protect his sister.”

Aitken’s defence agent Mr Hussain said his client had been drinking on the night of the incident.

He said: “She is fully remorseful.”

He added: “In terms of the racial element of this, she couldn’t recall what she was saying that night.”

Aitkens was told to perform 135 hours of unpaid work in the community within six months by sentencing sheriff Paul V Crozier.

Hawkins was jailed for five months which will be served consecutively with the sentence he is already serving.

He is due back in court next week for sentencing for other matters.
