Youngsters in Clackmannan have booked in for some entertaining tales which have been read to them by volunteers.

The Sweeten your Community with a Story initiative was relaunched in the Wee County last term.

It brings pupils from Clackmannan Primary School together with adult helpers who read to the children, there is also singing and puppet shows.

Jennifer Kidd, media and communications officer at Clackmannan Development Trust, told the Advertiser: “It was really well received at the time and then Covid happened and everything came to a halt.”

The sessions take place once a month with six or seven volunteers and Jennifer added: “The volunteers thoroughly enjoy it.

“Most of the volunteers are grandparents… so they get that lovely connection with a younger person. It’s just lovely.”

The children come down to Bruce Lounge around 2pm before heading back to their school for pickup time. At the moment, Clackmannan Development Trust isn’t looking for any more helpers, but anyone who is interested can get in touch with the organisation.

The sessions have been doing so well that Jennifer commented: “We have got dates right through to the end of the school year.”
